Willem II announced their intent ahead of the big top two clash with Dordrecht this coming Friday by taking apart an Ajax Jong side who arrived in Tilburg seven unbeaten. Willem II fell behind earlier on but roared back with seven unanswered goals leaving Ajax Jong shell shocked & taking their own unbeaten run to eight games. Dordrecht still lead the table by four points although Willem II have a game in hand, the current leaders beat draw specialists Helmond Sport on Friday thanks to a goal in the opening minute through Erixon Danso. A win in Tilburg would put Dordrecht seven points clear with just five games for Willem II to turn it around so Friday’s game is a real chance for Dordrecht to as good as seal a place in Eredivisie for next season.
Sparta Rotterdam have qualified for the end of season play offs but they will need a significant turnaround in form if they are to progress beyond the first round, they were beaten at another out of form side in the shape of Eindhoven, the home side running out 4-0 winners. Sparta are now eight games without a win & sit in 15th place in the table, six of those eight games have ended in defeat. Mixed fortunes for Sparta’s city rivals Excelsior who beat Volendam on Friday but squandered the chance to climb into third place when they were beaten at lowly Almere City who won for the third time on the trot. VVV Venlo were beaten again this time 3-1 at De Graafschap who move within three points of Venlo & Den Bosch keep tracks with the teams at the top following a 3-0 win over Oss.
Achilles 29 secured just their second win in 22 games following a 1-0 win over Telstar, Thijs Hendriks grabbing the only goal for his fourth of the season, Achilles are now just two points behind Oss at the foot of the table & with the teams above well in front it is a two horse race to avoid the wooden spoon. MVV’s 8 game unbeaten run came to an end on Friday at Almere but Fortuna Sittard continue their recent purple patch with a 2-1 success over PSV Jong. Since their 8-0 drubbing at Oss two weeks ago Emmen have won both games, FC Twente Jong the latest side to come unstuck at the Unive Stadion as Emmen ran out 2-0 winners to move into ninth place.
