Fortuna Sittard made it two home wins in a row with a 4-1 victory over Excelsior.

The visitors, coming into the game on the back of their 2-1 win over Feyenoord last weekend, started brightly and Mounir El Hamdaoui put a good early chance into the side netting.

Against the run of play, Fortuna Sittard took the lead in the 13th minute, when Lazaros Lamprou cut in from the left wing before firing a strike into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Excelsior were dealt another blow when Luigi Bruins was forced off injured and just after the half-hour mark it was 2-0. Lamprou pounced on a poor backpass before racing into the box and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Marcus Edwards nearly pulled one back for Excelsior minutes into the second half but his shot was just stopped by Damen on the line. In the 55th minute it was 2-1 with Ali Messaoud’s strike ending up in the net via defender Rubén Ramírez.

Excelsior were pushing for an equaliser but in the 64th minute Fortuna netted their third. Lisandro Semedo’s effort was parried by Damen into the path of Mark Diemers who fired into an empty net.

With fifteen minutes left, Excelsior nearly pulled one back but Dennis Eckert’s header was pushed onto the post by Koselev.

Andrija Novakovich then settled the victory for the hosts in injury time. The striker picked up the ball on the wing, drove into the box and curled the ball past Damen.

The victory lifts Fortuna Sittard up to 9th while Excelsior are 14th.
