Anwar El Ghazi isn’t thinking about a spot in Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad despite playing regularly for Aston Villa.

Ronald Koeman’s attacking options for next summer’s European Championships took a hit with both Memphis Depay and Donyell Malen suffering long-term injuries.

That means Koeman must consider other options and one of those could be Anwar El Ghazi, who hasn’t played for Oranje since 2015. However, the winger has been a regular for Aston Villa in the Premier League and has contributed four goals and four assists.

El Ghazi told De Telegraaf, “To be honest, I am not even bothered by the injuries of Memphis Depay and Donyell Malen.

“In any case, the next selection will only be announced in March and with Aston Villa we have our hands full to grab enough points to eventually stay in the Premier League.

“Of course I often dreamed about a final tournament with the Dutch team and of course I consciously dropped my choice on the Dutch national team. But now I know that it makes no sense to dream. Working hard, playing well and waiting is better.

“No, I don’t expect anything in return from the national coach or the KNVB, because I have opted for the Oranje.”
