The 31-year-old is without a club after leaving Fiorentina and has joined up with AZ Alkmaar, for whom he netted 51 goals in 80 appearances between 2007 and 2010, to gain fitness.
AZ have been hoping to sign the striker to the club permanently, and John van den Brom has told De Telegraaf that it is a possibility as long as El Hamdaoui doesn’t receive a lucrative offer from abroad.
Van den Brom said, “He is open to it. Within the next week I hope to have more clarity,”
“He’s very grateful that he can train with us, but from the beginning he honestly said he would prefer a new foreign adventure. We have to hope he does not get lucrative offer from Qatar for example.”
On El Hamdaoui in training he added, “He is very fit and doing great in training. I am really impressed with what he is doing before, during and after training.”
El Hamdaoui left AZ for Ajax in 2010 and has gone on to have an unsuccessful spell with Fiorentina, while spending some time on loan with Malaga.
