ADO Den Haag fans were eager to see new loan signing Ricardo Kishna in action for the first time, but he started the game on the bench. Willem II started their new signing Etien Velikonja as they went in search for their first win of the season but the forward missed an excellent chance on 15 minutes. After intercepting a pass from Robert Zwinkels, Velikonja had an open goal but he delayed his shot, allowing ADO Den Haag’s keeper to get back and make a tackle.
After the half hour mark, Fernando Lewis failed to clear the ball in the box and brought down Elson Hooi as he attempted to recover. The resulting penalty was netted by El Khayati.
ADO Den Haag missed several chances to extend their lead in the second half, and coach Alfons Groenendijk eventually brought on Kishna for his debut. However, moments later, Fran Sol prodded in a cross to equalise for Willem II.
El Khayati had the final word in the game, though, dribbling forward towards the box before unleashing a strike past Timon Wellenreuther to give ADO Den Haag their first victory of the season.
