Eljero Elia has opened the door on a move back to FC Twente this summer.

The 33-year-old is out of contract with Istanbul Basaksehir this summer and is not willing to rule out moving back to the Netherlands.

Speaking to Bureau Sport, Elia has spoken about returning to FC Twente, “I certainly do not exclude that. I do not exclude any club in the Netherlands, but FC Twente is very special to me. I am open to everything. I will see what will happen. In a month I will be free of transfer.”

Elia would ask for FC Twente to help with his coaching badges, “Yes, if I did, I would sign with the condition that they help me with my trainer diplomas. I really want to become a youth trainer.”

Elia had two years with FC Twente before departing in 2009 for Hamburg. He believes the time at the Tukkers was his happiest, “I had the happiest period at FC Twente. Nothing was expected of you, there were no expectations of the outside world. Then I played extra open-minded. We had a very nice and good team.”
