FC Emmen earned their first victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Heerenveen.

Emmen went into the game on the back of two defeats, while Heerenveen were still unbeaten.

However, Emmen were the better side from the start and in the fourth minute, Nikolai Laursen curled an excellent free-kick into the top corner to make it 1-0.

Jens Odgaard went close to an equaliser on two occasions with headers, while at the other end, Warner Hahn had to be at his best to deny Marko Kolar and Michael de Leeuw.

In the 41st minute, Emmen made it 2-0 as Glenn Bijl headed in from close range from Lorenzo Burnet’s cross.

Heerenveen pushed for a way back into the game in the second half but Odgaard missed an excellent chance, while Mitchell van Bergen couldn’t find a teammate after tormenting the home defence.

Emmen secure their first three points of the season while Heerenveen remains on four.
