Emmen have been relegated to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie after a penalty shootout loss to NAC Breda. The match finished 1-1 after extra time.

Emmen headed into the relegation playoffs in great form but after 15 minutes, NAC stunned the hosts by taking the lead. Feyenoord loanee Ramon Hendriks crossed for Lex Immers to net from close range.

Emmen then searched for the equaliser but they could not turn their possession into decent chances, while Immers went close to a second just before the break.

After the break, Emmen remained in control and eventually, they got the leveller in the 80th minute. Nikolai Laursen worked the ball into the net via the shoulder of Hendriks.

The game went to extra time but a winner could not be found meaning penalties decided the tie. Both Keziah Veendorp and Sergio Pena missed for Emmen, which proved fatal.

NAC Breda progress to meet NEC Nijmegen on Sunday for a place in the Eredivisie.
