The Eredivisie campaign is over and it’s time for Football-Oranje to pick our player of the season. FC Twente may have had a difficult campaign but Hakim Ziyech has stood a class above in the Eredivisie.

Money troubles have plagued the Enschede club this season and the future of FC Twente was brought into doubt on several occasions. Relegation was flirted with at times this season, but one man steered Twente to safety and that was Hakim Ziyech.

The Moroccan international took Twente by the scruff of the neck week in week out and his 17 goals from midfield ensured the club finished safely in 13th place. The highly gifted midfielder also added 10 assists during the campaign meaning he contributed to 27 of Twente’s 49 goals this season. That’s 55%.

The 23-year-old has two years left in his contract at Twente, but is almost certain to leave the club, who announced losses of €6 million this season. Clubs from Germany and England have been linked with Ziyech and he is certainly one of the biggest bargains to be had this summer.

Runner up: Vincent Janssen

The AZ Alkmaar striker has been the revelation of the season, scoring 27 goals in his first Eredivisie campaign, making him top scorer above Luuk de Jong. The 21-year-old already has a bundle of clubs chasing his signature and looks set to have a big future in the game.

Third place: Luuk de Jong

With Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay leaving PSV last summer, the pressure of retaining the title was put on Luuk de Jong, who took over the captaincy of the club. The striker didn’t disappoint, netting 26 goals during the season including two in the crucial win over PEC Zwolle on the last day of the season to secure the title.
