Janssen had an outstanding campaign last season for Almere City in the Eerste Divisie, and AZ Alkmaar beat off competition from abroad to bring the striker to the Eredivisie last summer.
The 21-year-old initially struggled to adapt to the Eredivisie as AZ had a poor start to the campaign, but after the turn of the year Janssen has been unstoppable and raced to the top of the goal-scoring charts. On the 16th of January, Janssen netted in a win over Roda JC and he followed that up with 20 goals in the next 16 games to fire AZ to fourth and a Europa league place. Ending the season with 27 goals Janssen is for the second year running the top scorer in his division.
The forward hasn’t only impressed for AZ, with Janssen scoring one and assisting another in his first start for Netherlands against England. The future certainly looks bright for Janssen, who has been compared to Ruud van Nistelrooy, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Atletico Madrid all being linked with a summer move.
Runner-up: Kenny Tete
The 20-year-old ousted Ricardo van Rhijn as Ajax’s first choice right back at the start of the season and had an excellent campaign for the Eredivisie runners-up. Quick, strong and an excellent tackler, Tete made 21 appearances for Ajax this season and forced his way into the Netherlands squad, earning two caps.
Third place: Bart Ramselaar
One of the revelations of the season, Ramselaar has had an excellent first campaign in the Utrecht first team. The 19-year-old is a creative midfielder with excellent vision and passing ability. He scored four goals and added five assists in 34 league games.
