New ADO Den Haag owner Hui Wang was in the stands, and after a tense opening where Hakim Ziyech hit the bar, he was on his feet celebrating after only 13 minutes as deadline day signing Oleksandr Iakovenko slid the ball confidently past Sonny Stevens to give ADO the lead.
Twente had chances to find an equaliser, but Luc Castaignos was in poor form in front of goal and at the other end only two good saves from Stevens prevented Mike van Duinen or Wilson Eduardo doubling the lead.
In the 90th minute ADO Den Haag sealed the points as Roland Alberg netted a penalty after the midfielder was brought down by Darryl Lachman.
The win moves ADO Den Haag up to 14th, while Twente miss the chance to close the gap on third place and remain 6th.
