Frank de Boer made changes to the side that exited the Europa League midweek with Lasse Schone, Lucas Andersen, Niklas Moisander and a fit again Kolbeinn Sigthorsson all returning to the starting line-up. However the changes failed to have a positive impact on the side, and Ajax struggled to find a way through ADO Den Haag in a poor first half.
Ricardo Kishna blasted a shot over the bar early on, while Lucas Andersen was also off target with a stooping header. The best chance of the half fell in the final minute, but Martin Hansen made a good reaction save with his legs to deny Ricardo van Rhijn’s snap shot from outside the box.
Ajax continued to struggle in the second half, but finally with ten minutes to go Davy Klaassen stooped to head a Lasse Schone free kick towards goal, and after taking a deflection off Xander Houtkoop the ball ended in the net.
Anwar El Ghazi missed two decent chances to add a second late on, while with the last kick off the game Kevin Jansen forced Jasper Cillessen into a decent save as Ajax claimed the three points.
PSV’s slip up to Feyenoord earlier in the day means the gap at the top is now eight points with six games left. ADO Den Haag remain 14th.
