AZ Alkmaar earned their sixth win in seven games as they saw off Willem II 2-0 at the AFAS Stadion to leapfrog Feyenoord into third.

0000 az bergWillem II earned a 1-1 draw with Ajax last week and they were the much better team in the first half in Alkmaar, but Terell Ondaan and Jerson Cabral were denied by Esteban and a diving header from Ali Messaoud crashed off the bar.

AZ were second best but before the break they took the lead with Steven Berghuis sending a low strike into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

The woodwork played a major part in the second half, with Guus Hupperts heading against the bar, while Jeffrey Gouweleeuw struck aluminium at both ends of the pitch before a Willem II corner struck the top of the goal.

Deep into injury time Dabney dos Santos settled the win for AZ from a Berghuis pass, and AZ temporarily jump to third. Willem II remain sit 10th.
