Heavy snowfall had made the pitch in Alkmaar hard to play on and the game got off to a slow start with both teams struggling to find any momentum. However in the 25th minute Simon Poulsen’s shot from the edge of the box was misjudged by Dordrecht keeper Filip Kurto and nestled in the net to give AZ the lead.
Five minutes into the second half Kurto was once again at fault as Nemanja Gudelj’s shot from range slipped past his fingers and into the corner to make it 2-0.
Dordrecht barely threatened to get back into the game, and AZ could have added further goals before the end with Aron Johannsson missing their best chance late on.
The three point sees AZ temporarily into fifth, while Dordrecht remain six points adrift at the bottom.
