Willem II ended an excellent season back in the Eredivisie with a 2-1 win over Cambuur.

camwil ejejAfter promotion from the Eerste Divisie last season, Willem II were expected to struggle, but they have defied the odds and another victory has seen the Tilburg side finish in the top half of the table.

A serious injury to winger Terell Ondaan midway through the second half forced Willem II boss Jurgen Streppel to bring on Ben Sahar, and on 35 minutes the substitution paid off as the Israeli international fired in the opening goal.

Three minutes into the second half Wilson Plume was fouled in the box, and Samuel Armenteros doubled Willem II’s lead from the penalty spot. Cambuur were awarded a penalty of their own with five minutes to go, and although Erik Bakker scored, the home side couldn’t find an equaliser.

The defeat sees Cambuur slide to twelfth in the table with Willem II three places above them in ninth.
