Feyenoord reclaimed third place from PEC Zwolle after beating 10-man Cambuur 2-1 at De Kuip.

01 feycamjddjjdAfter losing to Heerenveen midweek Feyenoord needed a win to keep up their pursuit of Ajax in 2nd place, and they went on the attack from the start, but Colin Kazim Richards wasted chance after chance in what turned into a frustrating first half hour. Finally two minutes before the break Jens Toornstra’s shot was parried by Leonard Nienhuis and Karim El Ahmadi stabbed into the net to give Feyenoord a deserved lead.

A minute after the break Kazim Richards netted a second, but he knew very little about the goal as Jens Toornstra’s fierce shot bounced off a defender and then hit the forward in the face before nestling in the net.

Cambuur’s day went from bad to worse on the hour mark as Bartholomew Ogbeche was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Anass Achahbar, but minutes later Martijn Barto took advantage of poor defending to reduce the deficit.

Feyenoord failed to find the killer third goal, but they held on comfortably to move back to third place and remain five points behind Ajax, while Cambuur sit 11th.
