The Deventer side went into the game with a slim chance of escaping the bottom three, and they began on top against Heerenveen with Jop van der Linden sending a free kick crashing off the underside of the bar, but the referee decided it did not cross the line.
As the match wore on Heerenveen began to take control, and only several saves from Erik Cummins denied them the lead. However with two minutes to go the keeper could do nothing to stop a strike from Lerin Duarte, who finished first time from Henk Veerman’s cross. Go Ahead Eagles were heading for defeat, but in the 90th minute Wesley Verhoek fired into corner to rescue a point.
Next week Go Ahead Eagles have the chance to leapfrog NAC Breda into 16th, but they will definitely take part in the relegation play-offs. Heerenveen slip one place to seventh.
