Willem II’s chances of reaching the European play-offs took a blow as they were held 1-1 by Heerenveen.

hee will fhjfWith eighth place being enough for a play-off spot should PEC Zwolle win the KNVB Cup, Willem II are still in with a chance of reaching Europe.

Against a Heerenveen side that is comfortably in the play-off spots, Willem II started as the more determined side and created the best chances. Samuel Armenteros was twice denied by Kristoffer Nordfeldt, while Bruno Andrade headed over from a Terell Ondaan cross.

Heerenveen’s best opportunity fell to in-form Luciano Slagveer just after the hour mark, but the winger could only fire over, before Andrade hit the woodwork for the visitors ten minutes later.

On 78 minutes the deadlock was finally broken by Willem II with Andrade finding the net with a nice lob over Nordfeldt, but the lead only lasted two minutes before Mark Uth equalised with a fierce strike past Kostas Lamprou.

The point means Heerenveen stay 6th, while Willem II move joint ninth, but two points behind Groningen who sit eighth.
