The superb Hakim Ziyech was the architect for Twente as they ended a tough season with an impressive 3-1 win at Heerenveen.

ziyech tweazHeerenveen raced out of the traps and were ahead after only 25 seconds with Luciano Slagveer finishing off a pass from Henk Veerman. It could have been 2-0 on 25 minutes but Sam Larsson’s shot struck the post, while Youness Mokhtar and Dico Koppers missed good chances to equalise for Twente before the break.

The second half was all about Twente midfielder Hakim Ziyech, who not for the first time this season, pulled the Enschede side to victory. Firstly the midfielder stroked the ball in from close range after a cutback from Luc Castaignos, before smashing a terrific strike past Kristoffer Nordfeldt from 25-yards minutes later to make it 2-1.

The victory was sealed on 76 minutes with Ziyech turning provider as his corner was headed into the net by Orlando Engelaar. Ziyech finishes top of the Eredivisie assist charts after setting up 16 goals for his teammate’s this season.

A tough season for Twente, in which they have been deducted six points by the KNVB for money issues, sees them finish tenth, while Heerenveen will face Feyenoord in the play-offs for the final Europa League place.
