A clinical Ajax eased to a 4-1 win over ten-man Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadion on Sunday.

ajahee velThe Amsterdam side may have had a tiring trip to Ukraine on Thursday, but they were quick out the traps in Friesland and were two goals ahead in the first eleven minutes. Firstly Arkaduisz Milik found the bottom corner with an accurate strike from just outside the box, before Davy Klaassen headed a corner past Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

Heerenveen pulled a goal back on 34 minutes when Sam Larsson’s cross was slid into the net by Mark Uth, but any chance of a comeback was ended when Joel Veltman headed in a Daley Sinkgraven free kick three minutes later.

Veltman was needed at the other end to clear off the line after Mark Uth had taken advantage of a terrible back-pass from Klaassen, but Ajax sealed the win on 66 minutes as Milik met Anwar El Ghazi’s cross at the back post and his volley flew into the net.

Heerenveen were reduced to ten men after Pelle van Aanholt brought down El Ghazi as he strode through on goal, but the scoreline was not added to before the end. Ajax remain 11 points behind PSV, while Heerenveen stay 7th.
