PSV were given a huge scare by Willem II but two goals in the last six minutes gave the Eindhoven side a 2-1 win which moves them nine points clear at the top.

01 dep willemThe Eredivisie leaders had been criticised recently after narrow wins over Vitesse and Cambuur, and they once again began sluggishly against Willem II. After a tepid opening half hour Willem II shocked the Phillips Arena as Robert Braber got ahead of his marker to head in a corner at the front post.

PSV pushed for the equaliser but Kostas Lamprou pulled off good save’s from Georginio Wijnaldum’s header and Memphis Depay’s free kick, while at the other end Samuel Armenteros passed up a good chance to make it 2-0. With fifteen minutes to go the Willem II goalkeeper handed PSV the opportunity to level when he brought down Jurgen Locadia, but Memphis Depay slammed his penalty spot over the bar.

The first loss for PSV at home seemed on the cards, but on 84 minutes Locadia’s shot from the edge of the box slipped through Lamprou’s fingers and into the corner. Three minutes later Depay made up for his penalty miss by volleying in Locadia’s header across the box to net the winning goal and save PSV from embarrassment.

Willem II drop to 11th after the defeat while Ajax are nine points ahead of Ajax, who face Vitesse tomorrow.
