Twente started the match in control and deservedly took the lead after 13 minutes when Youness Mokhtar raced onto Kamohelo Mokotjo’s through ball before firing into the corner.
Despite being second best for most of the first half Willem II equalised just after the half hour mark with Ali Messaoud sending an excellent curling strike into the top corner from outside the box, giving Sonny Stevens no chance.
Twente should have restored their lead just after the break, but Mokhtar missed an open goal, and with twenty minutes left Robbie Haemhouts ghosted through two defenders before slipping the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-1 for the visitors.
It seemed Willem II were going to coast to victory when Twente defender Renato Tapia was sent off for a challenge on Samuel Armenteros, but in the 2nd minute of injury time Andreas Bjelland finished from close range to equalise for the hosts. With the last kick off the game Twente then stole the win as Torgeir Borven slammed the ball into the top corner from just inside the box.
The win sees Twente climb to fifth while Willem II drop to 12th.
