It has been a hectic week for Feyenoord after the Europa League exit to Roma on Thursday, it was reported on Friday that Fred Rutten would leave his position as coach after this season, with a statement expected on Monday. A heavy weak seemed to take its toll on the Rotterdam side who failed to create any real chances in a dull first half in Utrecht.
After the break it was Utrecht who had the better chances, but Christian Kum fired over, while Sebastian Haller’s effort was cleared off the line by Terence Kongolo. Despite bringing on Elvis Manu, Feyenoord could not find a breakthrough with Karim el Ahmadi’s shot at Robbin Ruiter the closest they came.
The point means Feyenoord are now two points behind AZ in third, and raises questions on whether Fred Rutten will still be in charge by the time NAC Breda visit De Kuip next week. Utrecht sit 12th.
