Utrecht have dropped closer and closer to the relegation zone since their last win in the Eredivisie, a 3-0 win at AZ back on the 20th of December, but they quickly took the lead against Dordrecht with Sebastian Haller finishing off Edouard Duplan’s pass on 16 minutes.
The 20-year-old Frenchman netted his second of the game five minutes before the break, and he completed his hat-trick early in the second half from the penalty spot after Christian Kum was fouled by Marvin Peersman.
Dordrecht were given hope when Utrecht midfielder Willem Janssen was shown his second yellow card on the hour mark, and six minutes later Josimer Lima pulled a goal back for the visitors. However Lima was shown his second yellow on 70 minutes which killed any chance of a comeback.
In the last ten minutes Utrecht ran riot, firstly Haller netted his fourth of the game before Christian Kum and Jeff Hardeveld added late goals to seal an emphatic win. Dordrecht were reduced to nine men in injury time with Peersman shown a straight red.
The much needed win lifts Utrecht up to 12th, while Dordrecht remain rooted to the bottom.
