traolabyPeter Bosz’s side started the day with a chance of finishing third, but they needed to beat Utrecht and hope AZ and Feyenoord both lost their fixtures. AZ racing into an early two goal lead all but ended Vitesse’s chances, but they also went ahead early on against Utrecht with Bertand Traore’s shot taking a deflection before flying past Robbin Ruiter on 12 minutes.

Traore doubled Vitesse’s lead on 25 minutes, but back came Utrecht thanks to two excellent assists from striker Sebastian Haller. The Frenchman firstly set up Yassin Ayoub to finish on 44 minutes, and moments later Haller’s overhead kick tee’d up Bart Ramselaar for the equaliser.

Feyenoord losing to PEC Zwolle meant Vitesse would at least finish fourth with a win, but Utrecht took the lead with three minutes remaining as Danny Verbeek netted a free kick, but Zakaria Labyad rescued a draw in injury time.

Vitesse finish fifth and will now face PEC Zwolle in the play-offs for the Europa League, while Utrecht end the season in 11th.
