A late Robbie Haemhouts goal was enough to give Willem II a 1-0 win over Utrecht their 400th Eredivisie victory.

JDNJFWillem II almost earned a shock win at leaders PSV on Saturday before two late goals denied them at least a point, and they started brightly against cautious Utrecht. Robbie Haemhouts was played through one-one-one with Robbin Ruiter, but could not beat the keeper, while Samuel Armenteros saw an effort cleared off the line by Ramon Leeuwin.

Utrecht barely threatened, but towards the end of the first half Timo Letschert’s long range effort was saved by Kostas Lamprou, while Yassine Ayoub also failed to find the net after a clever combination with Edouard Duplan.

Tommy Oar had a great chance at the start of the second half, but Lamprou came to the home sides rescue and ten minutes before the end Haemhouts collected Terell Ondaan’s pass before sending a low shot into the bottom corner to hand Willem II the win.

Utrecht sit 12th after the loss while Willem II are one place above in 11th.
