Ajax’s chances of retaining their title are all but over after a 1-1 draw at Willem II which leaves them 14 points behind PSV.

The first half was all Ajax, with Anwar El Ghazi striking the post and Lasse Schone seeing a shot saved by Kostas Lamprou before Arkaduisz Milik finally opened the scoring just before the break with a low shot which took a deflection before looping into the corner.
Just like most of Ajax’s performances this season they started the second half nervously and after Terell Ondaan had hit a bicycle kick into the side netting an error from Nick Viergever in the box gifted Ali Messaoud the equaliser on 51 minutes.
Ajax pressurised Willem II looking for the winner, but El Ghazi missed two great chances while substitutes Richairo Zivkovic and Lucas Andersen failed to make an impact. It was Willem II who had the best chance to win the game but Samuel Armenteros somehow lashed wide with the goal gaping.
Willem II climb to ninth while Ajax will be looking behind them at AZ and Feyenoord who will look to battle them for 2nd place.
