Robert Maaskant’s side nearly got off to an excellent start with Mats Seutjens striking the post early on, but midway through the first half NAC did lead when Divine Naah set up Adnane Tighadouini to fire first time into the bottom corner.
After the goal Roda JC constantly applied the pressure, but Mitchell Paulissen fired just wide before the break, while Anco Jansen and Henk Dijkuizen were both guilty of missing good chances in the second half.
Despite their utter dominance Roda JC were unable to find an equaliser, and NAC held on to take a slim lead into the second leg on Sunday.
