Heracles Almelo v Fortuna Sittard

Heracles looked so much more secure defensively with their five-man defence that returned from Rotterdam with a point last weekend. It was also great for them that Janis Blaswich was back in goal. Fortuna, meanwhile, are riding off the high of their first win of the season. Two teams that I hope go for it on the night, and it is very hard to predict which way this will go! 1-1 | Tip: Both teams to score.

Saturday, 12th December

FC Groningen v RKC Waalwijk

Despite absolutely flying in the top six, Groningen are amongst the league’s lowest scorers; this makes me think they’ll find it hard to find a way past RKC, and the visitors will be dangerous with their front three on the counter-attack. 1-1 | Tip: RKC +1.5 Asian handicap.

FC Emmen v ADO Den Haag

This is a face-off between the league’s bottom two. If Dick Lukkien prepares his side for battle just as well as he did last season, this is a home win. I think they’ll come out battling, and if they lost to lowly ADO, then Lukkien will probably be out of a job. 2-0 | Tip: Home win.

Ajax v PEC Zwolle – Delayed airing on Premier Sports 2

After being dumped out of the Champions League midweek by Atalanta, Ajax players are bound to feel flat. Erik Ten Hag spoke of the important of bouncing back to compete in the Europa League and the Eredivisie title. The simple truth is that the team has too many raw, young players and there are sprinklings of average players around the spine of the team. It just means that Ajax, without some luck, cannot compete like they could two seasons ago, but surely this was inevitable. 2-0 | Tip: Ajax -1.5 Asian handicap.

Sunday, 13th December

Vitesse Arnhem v Heerenveen

I think this’ll be an intriguing game, and hopefully contain a few goals. I can’t see Heerenveen coming to defend in Arnhem, as Vitesse have already proven they can break down stubborn teams. The pace on the break of Mitchell van Bergen will test Vitesse’s five-man defence, but I think Vitesse have shown this season what a solid team they are becoming. 2-1 | Tip: Over 2.5 goals.

Willem II v Sparta Rotterdam

Sparta have recently made a big step as a team, only losing twice in eight games. Willem II are sliding down the Eredivisie following a poor start to the season getting worse. I think they’re due a win, but I don’t see it changing the outlook on a disappointing campaign. 1-0 | Tip: Under 2.5 goals.

VVV-Venlo v Feyenoord Delayed airing on Premier Sports 2

After watching Feyenoord draw 0-0 with Heracles and lose to Austrians Wolfsberger midweek, I think we’re in for another boring display here. I’ve found Feyenoord to be deteriorating as this season goes on, rather than improving as a squad. They’re rather summed up by the exasperated-looking Nicolai Jorgensen. He seems so frustrated by the midfielders around him who supply him with very little all game. 1-0 | Tip: VVV double chance.

PSV v FC Utrecht – LIVE on Premier Sports 2

PSV have been blowing hot and cold this season, but I think their 4-0 win on Thursday in the Europa League will give them confidence ahead of this tricky meeting with Utrecht. Having drawn their last three fixtures, it’s clear that the visitors are lacking the firepower to put away weaker teams, but do have the strength to go toe-to-toe with the better clubs in the league. They’ll keep it tight, but I suspect another disappointing result for stand-in head coach René Hake. 1-0 | Tip: Home win.

FC Twente v AZ Alkmaar

Twente’s last match was the excellent victory in Amsterdam. AZ arrive in Enschede from their disappointing trip to Croatia. AZ players’ legs will weigh heavy after being knocked out of Europe on Thursday. I don’t see how they can turn up to win a tough game such as this. AZ will also be without the suspended Bruno Martins Indi and Fredrik Midtsjo. 3-1 | Tip: Over 2.5 goals.
