It was another surprising week in the Eredivisie as PSV Eindhoven and Ajax again failed to win, with the champions losing at home to Vitesse. We have new leaders with Twente being replaced by AZ Alkmaar and NEC Nijmegen are back to the bottom despite drawing in Enschede.
Here is our team of the week:
Goalkeeper- Piet Velthuizen (Vitesse)
Made a crucial save from Siem de Jong, and set the ball moving forward which eventually saw Vitesse take the lead. Velthuizen was hardly troubled in the Amsterdam Arena, putting in a great performance.
Right Back- Gevero Markiet (Utrecht)
Came up against Yanic Wildschut, Uche Nwofor, Rajiv van la Parra and Luciano Slagveer throughout Utrecht’s win over Heerenveen, and the right back gave them all no chance to threaten despite the away side possesses most of the ball.
Left Back- Patrick van Aanholt (Vitesse)
The on loan Chelsea man defended excellently against Viktor Fischer, and Lucas Andersen throughout his side’s 1-0 win in the Amsterdam Arena, and also hit the woodwork after a venture forward.
Centre Back- Prince (RKC Waalwijk)
Prince was a rock at the back for RKC in their impressive 3-0 win over NAC Breda on Friday, and was unlucky not to score when his header came off the post.
Centre Back- Jeffrey Bruma (PSV Eindhoven)
Bruma headed PSV into an early lead, and went on to defend excellently throughout against a dangerous PEC Zwolle side. Bruma won 100% of his aerial duels, and put in some crucial tackles throughout despite his side eventually drawing 1-1
Midfielder- Sander Duits (RKC Waalwijk)
Duits was excellent in RKC’s win over NAC Breda, contributing an assist, and netting a penalty whilst controlling the midfield with a dominant performance.
Midfielder- Jens Toornstra (Utrecht)
Netted a good free-kick against Heerenveen, and his quick thinking from another set piece saw Utrecht double their lead. Not only was Toornstra great going forward, he also made four tackles in the midfield, the most in the game.
Midfielder- Nemanja Gudelj (AZ Alkmaar)
AZ Alkmaar stormed to the top of the table after beating ADO Den Haag 2-0 with Gudelj opening the scoring with a smart finish from outside the box. Gudelj also completed 85% of his passes throughout, and made a number of important interceptions.
Forward- Filip Kostic (Groningen)
Scored a stunning volley, and also set up his sides second goal with a great cross. Kostic is becoming a fans favourite at the Euroborg, and its easy to see why with such eye catching performances.
Forward- Johann Gudmundsson (AZ Alkmaar)
Possibly AZ’s player of the season so far, Gudmundsson was excellent throughout their 2-0 win over ADO Den Haag, and capped his performance with a 30 yard strike into the top corner.
Forward- Soren Rieks (NEC Nijmegen)
The right winger led NEC’s fightback against Twente, as they came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, firstly netting with a nice header before setting up Jantscher to net the equaliser.
