Twente may have lost two of their best players this summer, but hopes are high ahead of the new campaign.

castaignosgvvhLast season was not the best year for FC Twente. There was no European football and also in the Dutch cup the ‘Tukkers’ went out very quickly. Twente played an unstable season in the Eredivisie, with some good wins in Rotterdam and Alkmaar but also with some bad point losses in De Grolsch Velste. Twente finished in 3rd place and are back in Europe after one year.

Twente have lost two of their best players. Dusan Tadic went to Southampton and Quincy Promes signed for Spartak Moscow. Defender Roberto Rosales went on a free to Malaga. Youth players Joey Pelupessy and Coen Gortermaker chose for Twente’s ‘little brother’ Heracles Almelo.

The incoming players have big gaps to fill. Young Danish international Kasper Kusk is the replacement of Tadic. The 22 years old attacker was very cheap for the Enschede club. For only 700.000 they could pick up the ‘biggest talent’ of Denmark. Also defender Daryl Lachman came to Enschede from PEC Zwolle, despite interest from PSV and Feyenoord. Midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo followed Lachman to Twente. The South African midfielder also comes from PEC Zwolle for fee of 1.5 milion euro’s.

Twente are trying to sign Heerenveen star Hakim Ziyech. The midfielder has a contract for one year, but Twente is not willing to pay the 5 mil transfer fee. Twente and Ziyech already have an agreement on a contract.

Pre season:

Twente had a solid preseason. The amateur teams were defeated very easily and with a 2-0 win at Sporting Lisbon the Tukkers played their best match so far. With a draw against Konyaspor, a loss against Monchengladbach and a win over FC Emmen the tukkers look ready for the Eredivisie start.

Strongest XI: Marsman; Breukers, Lachman, Bjelland, Koppers; Gutierrez, Ebecilio, Castaignos; Kusk, Mokhtar, Borven

Key Players:

Felipe Gutierrez: The midfielder is the player that has to lead the young players in the midfield. Gutierrez played in the World Cup this summer for Chille and did a great job in Brazil. Twente expected  lot of  interest for the top player, but till today it is very calm around Gutierrez.

Kasper Kusk: If you are the replacement of the star of the team, people expect big things. So do I. Kasper Kusk was the biggest talent in Denmark and scored in his first match for Twente (2-1 win over FC Emmen). Also PSV and Bundesliga clubs had interest in Kusk before Twente swooped.

Young Player to watch:

There are many big talents in the Twente side, with Tim Holscher, Dario Tanda and Renato Tapia there is not only one player to watch. I would chose these 3. German attacker Tim Holscher already made his debut for the first team two years ago, while Tanda and Tapia are knocking on the door of the first team now. Big expections of those 3.

Twente was an unstable team last year with many young players. After the lost of Dusan Tadic and Quincy Promes new players will get a chance. If Twente can manage to get at least on new attacking player (for example Hakim Ziyech) I think great things can happen in Enschede.

My prediction: 1th-3rd
