Sneijder was born in Utrecht and has been linked with the club since he was released from Galatasaray earlier this month.

Ten Hag said on the speculation and Utrecht’s approach to the transfer window, ”I can’t confirm contact with Wesley Sneijder. I can only say that if that was the case then we would make that known.

”The way we work here at FC Utrecht is if we have any information regarding the departure or arrival of players we make that known in a neat and professional way.

”We plan to stay extremely alert during the transfer window. Players from our current squad are wanted by other clubs and we are also looking at potential targets.

”If there are opportunities and it falls within the budget of FC Utrecht then we plan to react.”
