Ten Hag said, “I thought we managed to keep PSV Eindhoven at bay up until 60 minutes. Even at 3-1 we still had two good chances.

“We defended very poorly today particularly in terms of positional play and anticipation too. We must stick together as a team and appreciate the support of our fans who even stayed behind to applaud us after the game.

“This is not the FC Utrecht that I want to see. We are around the 8th/9th club of the Netherlands and our players must continue to develop and improve.

“This is a heavy defeat for us and that must happen. We were even warned last week with our defeat in Enschede to FC Twente.

“We must dust ourselves down and work hard together in order to get back to winning ways.”
