Van de Looi stated that he believes his team only have themselves to blame for their defeat today after conceding twice in the opening seven minutes.
He said, ”We knew what to expect this afternoon facing FC Utrecht that they would start with a lot of drive and come forward and attack. We were not at the races and we conceded two goals.
”It was not a personal decision to take Daniel Crowley off after only 15 minutes but it was to repair the damage that was caused with us being overrun in midfield at the start of the game.
”Also in pre-season we had games where we were 2-0 down early in the game so we have to look at the root causes of that. We know how we want to play.
”You know that a club involved in European competition wants to start the game at a high tempo and we allowed FC Utrecht to do that today. We can only blame ourselves for the defeat today.”
Van de Looi also stated that the club were hoping to sign some new player, ”We are still active in the transfer market and we know what we want. We targeted 3 players and we managed to get the first one in Ben Reinstra who played well today. Now we have to bring in another two before end of the transfer window.”
