AZ Alkmaar started the Europa Conference League group stage with a 1-0 victory against Dnipro-1.

In a rainy Slovakia, both sides got off to a slow start with Milos Kerkez firing over in a rare chance for the Dutch side. Sam Beukema almost gave Dnipro-1 the lead with an own goal but his attempted clearance came back of his own post.

Early in the second half Hakon Evjen fired into the side netting before Dani de Wit gave AZ the lead after an hour. The midfielder headed in a cross from Yuki Sugawara.

Beukema headed a corner wide before Tijjani Reijnders saw his effort well saved. However, AZ did not need a second goal and they will return to the Netherlands with three points.
