For Arnie Slot’s first competitive game in charge there was no debut for Jordy Clasie, who watched the game from the stands. Oussama Idrissi and Thomas Ouwejan were also on the bench as Owen Wijndal and Albert Gudmundsson started.
In the summer heat, the game got off to a slow start with neither side going close in the opening half-hour. Ahmed Yasin had the best chance for BK Hacken but his strike came back off the bar. At the other end, Calvin Stengs poked a shot wide, while Teun Koopmeiners curled a free-kick from the edge of the box into the wall.
Two minutes into the second half, Koopmeiners struck the post with a low strike from distance. BK Hacken then went into their shell and AZ struggled to break them down.
AZ pushed forward but the only chance was a scuffed shot wide from Til as BK Hacken held on.
AZ now head to Sweden next week needing at least a score draw to progress.
