Ajax earned a slender 1-0 win over Legia Warsaw at the Amsterdam Arena, but only due to a strong performance from goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

cillFrank de Boer restored striker Arkaduisz Milik to the starting eleven in place of Lasse Schone, and that change proved a masterstroke just after the half hour mark as the Polish striker curled a lovely strike into the top corner from the edge of the box. Earlier Milik had wasted a decent heading chance, while Anwar El Ghazi had a shot saved by Dusan Kuciak.

After the break Legia Warsaw took control and only several stops from Jasper Cillessen stopped the Polish champions leveling the score. Firstly the Netherlands number one denied Orlando Sá and Guilherme, before making an excellent close range stop from Michal Zyro with his leg.

Ajax failed to find a killer goal, but in Cillessen they had a player at the top of his game, and the keeper made another two brilliant saves from Sa as the Eredivisie champions held on for the win. Ajax travel to Poland next week looking to seal a place in the second knockout round for the first time in five years.
