Vitesse Arnhem need to turn around a 3-0 deficit when they host Southampton on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie.

pelle viteVitesse were outclassed by the Premier League outfit last week, with goals from Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic and Shane Long putting Southampton in a commanding position heading into the second leg.

However boss Peter Bosz is refusing to give up hope heading into the second leg and believes his side could have a chance if they can get on the scoresheet early.

Bosz told a press conference, “If you are realistic it’s going to be really difficult,”

“What I felt in the first game was they got more mature quality than we have, but then again also in the game we played in Southampton we had pretty good chances to score.

“If you score in an away game it’s big before the home game and we had pretty big chances so it is possible.

“We expect 20,000 people which is fantastic if you have lost 3-0. Our fans were outstanding in Southampton so we also want to perform for them. There’s always a chance. If you score early, you never know what’s going to happen.”

Chelsea loanee Dominik Solanke hasn’t been registered in time and won’t make his debut, but fellow Blues player Nathan could make his first appearance after training with the squad this week.

Possible Vitesse line-up: Room, Diks, Leerdam, Kashia, Van der Werff, Baker, Nakamba, Vako, Brown, Oliynyk, Djurdjevic/Rashica

Despite holding a three goal lead and the fact that the Premier League starts this weekend, Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has stated that he will not field a weakened side. The former Vitesse coach has also warned his players against complacency ahead of the tie.

Koeman said, “I don’t like that,”

‘I like to win every game. Of course, 3-0 is a very good result in Europe but there’s still 90 minutes to play and we need to develop. We will start a very strong team.

‘We played for the Europa League over 38 games in the Premier League. It is a crazy thing to think about it, to throw everything away.’

Koeman himself may not be present at the game after suffering an Achilles injury on Wednesday, while Jordy Clasie is set to miss out after suffering an injury last week.

Possible Southampton line-up: Stekelenburg; Soares, Yoshida, Jose Fonte, Targett, Wanyama, Reed,  Davis, Tadic, Mane, Pelle.

It is very likely that Vitesse’s time in the Europa League will come to an end on Thursday, with Southampton simply too strong for the Arnhem club. Expect Vitesse to put up a good fight, but it will simply not be enough.

Predicted scoreline: Vitesse 1-1 Southampton
