PSV Eindhoven’s Europa League campaign got off to a poor start as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bodo/Glimt in the Philips Stadion.

After the loss to FC Twente at the weekend, Ruud van Nistelrooy made changes as Guus Til, André Ramalho and Johan Bakayoko made way for Yorbe Vertessen, Phillipp Mwene and Ismael Saibari.

PSV struggled in the opening stages to find any gaps in the Norwegian side and chances were few. Vertessen got the best opportunity for the hosts after a Cody Gakpo shot was spilled but the Belgian shot wide with the goal gaping.

Bodo/Glimt punished that miss before the break with Albert Grønbaek finding the net with an excellent finish following a swift counter.

PSV didn’t improve after the break so it was no surprise that Van Nistelrooy brought on Savio and Anwar El Ghazi. Moments after coming on, El Ghazi flicked the ball through to Gakpo and the forward calmly slotted the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

PSV looked for a winner but the best chance fell to the visitors as Benitez had to deny Vetlesen.

A poor start for PSV, who will now face Arsenal in the group next week.
