Chong left Feyenoord for Manchester in 2016 and has made a big impression in their various youth sides. The 18-year-old is currently playing for the U23’s and is pushing for a first team debut.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Clayton Blackmore, who made over 180 appearances for Manchester United and used to work with their academy, has stated that Chong reminds him of Welsh legend Ryan Giggs.
He said, “The second I saw him I said, ‘We have got to get him’,’
“The closest player I’ve seen to filling Ryan Giggs’ boots was Angel Di Maria but Mr Van Gaal did not play him in the right position. He (Chong) could be the next one. He’s playing on the wing, looking really good running with the ball as well like Ryan. He’s done well since coming back from injury. He can go the distance.
“There are many pitfalls, such as avoiding injuries and not being influenced by the wrong people, he has returned recently after a serious knee injury and the club must be careful with him.”
