11dejongA goal from Memphis Depay handed PSV a 1-0 win over Celtic in Gran Canaria on Saturday, and they knew a win over Sparta Prague would see them lift the trophy.

However the Czech side, that knocked PEC Zwolle out of the Europa League earlier in the season, started brightly and two goals in a minute from Borek Dockall and David Lafata handed Sparta Prague a 2-0 lead. Phillip Cocu’s side were back in the game a minute before the break Adam Maher slotted in Santiago Arias’s cutback to half the deficit.

PSV blitzed their opponents in the second half, with Memphis Depay finishing off a swift counter attack on 67 minutes to level the scores before two goals from Luuk de Jong in the space of four minutes handed the Dutch side a 4-2 lead.

Four minutes from the end Georginio Wijnaldum completed the scoring to hand PSV their first trophy of what could be a very successful year with the Eindhoven side top of the league, and still in both the KNVB Cup and Europa League.
