A late goal from Dario Dumic earned NEC Nijmegen a point against Excelsior in Rotterdam.

elbers-excnmecThe home side made a bright start to the game and after Fredy went twice on two occasions they finally took the lead on ten minutes through Stanley Elbers. The winger tapped into the net after being picked out by Kevin Vermeulen.

After twenty minutes, NEC had their first big opportunity when Ferdi Kadioglu picked out Julian von Haacke in the box, but the midfielder headed straight at Excelsior goalkeeper Tom Muyters. However, just before the break, NEC did equalise as Jay-Roy Grot fired a fierce strike into the bottom corner after twisting through two challenges.

Excelsior regained their lead three minutes into the second half after Vermeulen played Khalid Karami through on goal and the winger fired into the far corner.

The home side then missed several chances to put the game to bed and in the 77th minute a Kadioglu corner made its way to Dario Dumic at the far post and the defender controlled the ball before finding the bottom corner to earn NEC a point.

Excelsior go into the winter break 14th, while NEC are 11th.
