Excelsior are definitely safe from relegation after a 1-1 draw at PEC Zwolle. 

Both sides traded chances in a lively opening before PEC Zwolle took the lead on 15 minutes with Youness Mokhtar’s strike leaving Ögmundur Kristinsson with no chance.

Excelsior’s goalkeeper denied Piotr Parzyszek a second before the break and early in the second half the striker fired a good chance wide.

Just before the hour mark, the visitors were awarded a penalty when Levi Garcia was brought down by Kingsley Ehizibue. Mike van Duinen fired the penalty past Diederik Boer to make it 1-1.

Neither side could find the winning goal in the final half-hour with the point meaning PEC Zwolle drop to 8th, while Excelsior are 10th.
