veldwijk nottThe 6ft 5inch striker was a revelation in the Eerste Divisie last season as his 34 goals in 42 games saw Excelsior promoted to the Eredivisie through the end of season play-offs.

A number of clubs were reportedly interested in the 22-year-old but Nottingham Forest have beaten off all the competition to sign Veldwijk on a three-year-deal for an undisclosed fee.

The target man started his career with Volendam, but moved to Utrecht after only two games for the club. Things did not work out at Utrecht, and after a season on loan with Dordrecht, Veldwijk signed for Excelsior in 2013.

Veldwijk isn’t the first Dutch striker to join Nottingham Forest, with both Pierre van Hooijdonk and Bryan Roy previously spending spells at the City Ground.
