Excelsior Rotterdam came back from a goal down to defeat Vitesse Arnhem 2-1 in the GelreDome.

Luc Castaignos has had a torrid time so far this season but the striker once again started up front for the hosts with Tim Matavz still suspended. After only two minutes Castaignos answered some of those critics by firing the hosts in front.

Vitesse failed to build on their early lead and just before the break Hicham Faik made them pay with a strike from distance which beat Remko Pasveer.

Excelsior started the second half brightly and after Stanley Elbers missed a huge chance they took the lead on 64 minutes. Lassana Faye’s attempted clearance hit off Mike van Duinen and crept into the net.

Vitesse then lost Bryan Linssen to injury and without the winger they barely threatened the visitors defence, which held strong to claim the three points.

Vitesse stay 7th while Excelsior rise to 11th.
