FC Groningen have announced, via their official website, that they have extended the contract of inform striker Mimoun Mahi. FC Groningen had offered Mahi a new contract earlier in the season, as a reward for his fine form, only for the striker to reject it.

However, due to the fact that Mahi’s contract expires this summer, the club have now decided to take matters into their own hands and extend terms automatically using an existing clause in his contract.

General Director for FC Groningen, Hans Nijland, told the official website, “A while back, we let it be known that we made Mahi the offer to sign a new contract with the club. He has indicated that this is not going to be the case. Of course we respect that choice. This means that we will now use the two-year option on his current contract.”

The 23-year-old striker is now contracted with FC Groningen until 2019, this season Mahi has scored 10 goals in 25 Eredivisie games.
