In the first half the hosts were the dominant side although they didn’t really create that many clear cut chances to trouble Cillessen. Soon after the 15-minute-mark Twente did manage to open the scoring as a solo effort by Jesus Corona found its ways into the net.
In the remainder of the first half both sides had some opportunities to score more but Miyaichi found Cillessen on his path and a Sigthorsson effort was met by the hands of Marsman.
The tables turned in the second half as Ajax were now dictating proceedings despite small opportunities for the home side early on. The first chance for the visitors came after 53 minutes as Schøne fired a free kick onto the cross bar from 35 yards out. Twente keeper Marsman was a relieved man as the ball bounced away from danger.
Ajax would eventually find the net twenty minutes from time, just as Milik was about to come on for Sigthorsson it was the Icelandic striker who found the net to level the score.
Twente were now under enormous pressure as Ajax threw everything at them.
Marsman pulled off a save from a speculative efforts by Marsman and Zimling, whilst Twente had a great of their own as Castaignos fired wide a couple of minutes from time.
The final chance of the game came in injury time as a Schøne header went straight into the hands of Marsman. A point each is a fair reflection of proceedings. Neither side did enough to clinch all three.
