President of the Turkish club Aziz Yıldırım told Turkish media earlier this week that they were open to selling Van Persie this summer if any clubs were interested and this led to rumours that the players agent was in Istanbul to agree a contract termination.
However, Fenerbahce have now issued a statement which denies that the club are in talks with van Persie’s agent. The statement read, “A number of websites write that the agent of Van Persie is in Istanbul to discuss the termination of the cooperation. These claims are pure lies. His agent is not in Istanbul, and also no talks are entered into. So the rumors are wrong.”
Van Persie moved to Turkey last summer from Manchester United, but struggled to hold down a guaranteed starting spot. The former Netherlands captain netted 14 goals in 29 appearances for the club.
