Guus Hiddink has called up QPR midfielder Leroy Fer into his Netherlands squad after Ajax’s Davy Klaassen was ruled out through a minor injury.

klaassen aKlaassen played the full ninety minutes of Ajax’s 4-2 win over Cambuur on Sunday, but after the match the midfielder complained of a groin problem, and has been pulled out of Netherlands squad for the upcoming matches against Mexico and Latvia.

The 21-year-old is yet to make an appearance for the Oranje since Guus Hiddink took charge in the summer, and his only cap came last March in the friendly defeat to France.

QPR’s Leroy Fer has been a regular feature in the Netherlands squad for the past year, and was part of the World Cup squad that finished third, while making substitute appearances in the win over Kazakhstan and the loss over Iceland last month.

The 24-year-old was left out by Hiddink but, has been given a way back into the squad ahead of Adam Maher, and Jonathan de Guzman, who have been in good form recently.

Netherlands face Mexico on Wednesday before hosting Latvia in a crucial European Championship qualifier six days later.
