pelle dGroningen came close to netting straight from the kick off but Tjarron Chery’s effort went just wide of the post after only 20 seconds.

On seven minutes Feyenoord netted with their first attack, as Graziano Pelle headed Jean-Paul Boetius’s cross past Marco Bizot.

Tonny Vilhena should have made it 2-0 before the break, but his effort following a short corner was brilliantly kept out by Bizot.

Andraz Kirm saw an effort saved by Erwin Mulder after an hour mark, and from the counter attack Pelle smashed the ball off the bar with a terrific effort.

Feyenoord then had Mulder to thank for seeing out the win, as the goalkeeper stopped efforts from Filip Kostic, Kirm, and Chery, while Ruud Vormer came close to doubling the home side’s lead with a free-kick pushed away by Bizot.

The win sees Feyenoord stay 4th, and six points behind league leaders Vitesse at the halfway point of the season. Groningen remain 6th after the defeat.
